PEDIATRICS:

It is one of the first branches of the college of Medicine since its establishment. It started with one academic staff and now consists of six, three of whom are Professors, two Assistant Professors and one Lecturer. Pediatrics Branch has completed the requirements to grant the Master's degree in Pediatrics as of the beginning of the academic year 2016-2017.

Objectives

The main aim of the Pediatrics is to provide the medical students the theoretical and clinical ability to prepare a medical doctor who has the knowledge and training ability to perform his work in pediatric field in hospitals with full interaction in his work and the achievement of what is required of him to serve the patient and the society and the state according to the working conditions and possibilities and the ability to develop himself and his job to improve the performance required of him and aspiring.

Clinical Training:

The clinical training of fifth-grade students is carried out at the teaching hospital at a rate of 90 hours per year (3 hours per week) during which students are trained in various medical cases related to pediatric medicine. This includes training on how to collect and write the patient's medical history, learn and practice the clinical examination of the various body organs, and discuss the cases and tests necessary for them to arrive at the correct medical diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment and follow-up cases and documentation.

The sixth stage curriculum includes clinical training at the teaching hospital for 10 weeks (5 days a week - 6 hours per day). This includes discussing the most important theoretical and practical topics in pediatric medicine in relation to the comprehensive clinical history, clinical examination of the various body organs, tests and laboratory analyses in order to arrive at the correct diagnosis and give appropriate treatment and study and document medical cases. The clinical training for the sixth stage includes medical wards, emergency department, thalassemia center, neonatal ward, consulting clinic and others. The clinical training also includes preparation and discussion of various medical topics by students and teachers as well as training in primary health care centers with the participation of the community medicine branch on maternal and child care, vaccinations and community health.

 

Master of Pediatrics

 First academic year

1. The first course (15 weeks):

Physiology, Embryology, Medical statistics and research methods, Blood diseases, and Microbiology.

Theoretical: 3 hours per week (3 units).

Practical: Two lessons per week at a rate of 4 hours per lesson (2 units).

Working as a senior resident in the educational hospital in different branches

2. Second course (15 weeks):

General pediatrics, GIT, Cardiovascular system, Respiratory, Nephrology, Neonatology, Infectious diseases

Theoretical: 2 hours per week (2 units)

Practical: 2 lessons per week for 4 hours per lesson ( 4 units).

Working as a senior resident in the educational hospital in different branches according to the study schedule.

 

Second academic year:

3. Third course (15 weeks): 

Pediatrics systems

Theoretical: One hour per week (one unit).

Practical: 3 lessons per week at 3 hours per lesson (4.5 units).

 

4. Forth course (15 weeks):

Pediatrics systems

Theoretical: One hour per week (one unit).

Practical: 3 lessons per week at 3 hours per lesson (4.5 units).
